Overview
The University of Bristol was founded in 1876 as University College, Bristol, and granted its Royal Charter in 1909. The University has built a strong reputation as a teaching and research institution and is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of universities. The academic quality of the University is reflected in the Nobel Prizes and Fellowships associated with the University community. The University also has to its credit of being the first higher educational institution in England to admit women on an equal basis with men.
