With a previous background in electrical engineering, I found the well structured MSc course at Kent offered me an ideal opportunity, and the knowledge necessary, to make a transition into the communications area, which I wanted to be in. The MSc course at Kent was a technical foundation stone for my career, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to work in the communications industry.
Following the course, I decided to stay on at Kent and worked as a research associate under Dr Nathan Gomes. I also registered as a part-time PhD student, specialising in optical communications engineering.
Located in the south east of England, the historical city of Canterbury offers good commuting links to London and the rest of Europe, which is ideal for foreign students like me who also want to spend any spare time travelling around Europe.
After my PhD, I joined Bookham Technology as a Senior Engineer responsible for developing optical transceiver modules. The training gained during the MSc course was a crucial factor in enabling me to secure this position. I am now a Technical Manager in Phyworks, a company developing ICs for the optical communication market. In this job, I use my technical and language skills to provide product support to customers in China, Taiwan, and Korea.
Located in Greater London and Southern England.
