I'd highly recommend RGU to any future postgraduate student. A postgraduate qualification affords you the ability to focus your sights on an achievable career path. I know from my experience not only do you receive a quality educational experience linked to the real world of work but RGU provides you with a prestigious qualification highly regarded by future employers and access to the relevant Professional organisation for your field of study.
Having completed my MA I realised I needed more of a vocational qualification. I looked for a postgraduate studies program with interesting content and I happened upon the Personnel Management curriculum offered by RGIT (as it was known at the time). I had no clue what Personnel Management was but I liked the course content and knew that RGIT had an excellent academic reputation. So it seemed like the right decision to make. I had always assumed I would study at Postgraduate level as my MA degree was too general to be applicable directly to a career. I wanted a postgraduate degree that would more easily open the door for me to the world of work
The faculty were excellent, with real world experience in their area of expertise, be it Employment Law, Labour Relations, Organisation Development, Compensation etc. They applied this real world experience to their teaching. The course was also very well designed and comprehensive, you experienced a full immersion in your chosen field of study, in this case Personnel Management. The most valuable aspect of the course was the 6 week assignment in industry. You had to complete a project of significant benefit to the company you were assigned to - so you not only obtained real work experience but also got a taste of what it might be like when you started work full time. The course also qualified you for membership of the Institute of Personnel Management and the Institute of Training and Development, both very prestigious professional organisations.
Aberdeen, is a small city and easy to get around but has all the benefits of a large city with good restaurants, nightlife, a wonderful theatre which regularly runs the latest West End shows and a great Art Gallery. It has fantastic surrounding countryside within easy reach and a beautiful coastline with miles of sandy beaches on its doorstep. Having two Universities, a well respected Art School and an excellent teaching hospital - the quality of Aberdeen's inhabitants places a higher level of expectations for excellent services and amenities on the local authorities.
I am currently Vice President of HR and Leadership Development for Mattel, Inc. based in their California head office. My postgraduate degree started me on the career path that took me to where I am today and set me up for the significant success that I have achieved in my career.
